To allow or not

Published February 25, 2013 by emotionless brain

The kids father’s wifeypoo texted me today asking if they could take the kids to an event Thursday night. My first reaction is why? I then asked why a school night? Her reply was we only do this every three years or so. Um non responsive to the question. I told her I would have to get back to her on the subject. I am absolutely not inclined to allow them to take my eight year old daughter to an event on a school night that will keep her out until 11pm or so. This is not a simcha, or religious related, it is a concert.

Decisions, decisions… Thank you again for difficult decisions

  • I say let her go if she’s a good student and is entitled to a treat. I also say, don’t let her go if it will be so disruptive to the rest of your household and your sleep schedule. Maybe it would be a bit different if wifeypoo was wiling to take your daughter for an overnight and then to school the next morning. Balancing one child’s demands against the rest of the household is challenging, for sure.

  • It depends on the concert. If it’s Britney Spears, that’s a definite no. But if it’s a lovely and educational symphony, then it’s probably worth allowing her to be a little cranky at school the next day.
